This was virtually the equivalent of dying and going to sports heaven.
The final round of the British Open golf with Aussie Adam Scott in the lead (ignore the fact he blew a four shot lead with four holes to play), the last day of the Tour de France with UK champion cyclist Bradley Wiggins on parade in Paris on the way to victory and the fourth day of the first Test between top ranked cricketing nations England and South Africa.
And this isn't to mention that other big multi sports festival about to get underway...I can't quite remember the name of it but anyway.
And to top it all off the World Match Play Championships were being played out in Blackpool - darts of course.
This prompted some pretty serious darts competition out the back of the Balham bed and breakfast, aka the friends place I was crashing at.
Two darts each and first to 100 on a board filled with concentric circles numbered one to bullseye 10.
The extra challenge was completing the task in 12 darts in order to write your name on the coveted Culverden Road honour board.
Hasn't been done yet but determined to crack it before I leave.
