A day of the unexpected.
Never did I contemplate going to beach while staying in London, let alone on such a perfect day, nor did I think we would be part of the Olympic torch relay in the lead up to the Olympics.
But at a little fish and chip shop by the seaside of the south coast town I met a bloke called Peter.

We started talking and behind him, next to the slush puppy maker of course, was a long, skinny and metallic looking thing which turned out to be the torch he carried for a leg of the relay a week earlier.
A life saver for 20 years and a life rescue boat volunteer for another decade, Peter is Brighton born and bred and still lives and works in the area as he has done his entire life.
He was kind enough to pose for a photo with the boy from Bolwarra with the iconic Brighton Pier lines the background.
And no you're not seeing things, beneath the deck chairs on the way to the water are, literally, millions of pebbles.
Completely foreign concept and a bit tougher on the old feet than the sand at Hawks Nest I'll give you the tip.
Also played games at the arcade (it was seriously like a casino for kids), ate the best cup cakes ever (no word of a lie), strolled through some funky shops (old soul records and found out I'm as tall as Elvis), was asked for directions by a complete stranger (I told him to take a right then his second left before knocking on the green door to the beat of God Save The Queen and ask for a bloke called Steve) and dined at a place called the Grand Junction (a little reminder of home).
