Lightning bolt of love sent around the world

Day 18 - August 5

This is a vey ordinary attempt of replicating the signature winning move of the world's fastest man just hours after he claimed back-to-back Olympic titles in the blue ribbon 100m sprint.

It probably resembles a John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever but without the swagger and without the style (but the Wallabies jersey is always a safe Aussie supporter choice).

However, the crowd around Olympic Park were abuzz and I couldn't help myself as I saw a stack of Jamaican flags out and reggae music blaring. We even spotted a quartet dressed up as Sanka and the bobsled team from Cool Runnings.

The feeling was love - all love - in Stratford, across London and all around the world (how cute are these kids back in Jamaica).

The other incredible part was the way everybody around Olympic Park clambered for positions and the cheer of the crowd from the hockey venue, where I was situated, when they crossed live to the big race on the big screen.

Olympic action (day 9):

HUNTER WATCH

*Newcastle pair Suzy Batkovic and Jenni Screen help the Opals to 72-63 victory against Canada in the final preliminary game as the Aussies move through to the quarter-finals against.

*Maitland’s Simon Orchard and the Kookaburras are held to a 3-all draw by a fast-finishing Great Britain after leading by three goals early in the second half.

*Nulkaba shooter Daniel Repacholi finished midfield, 19 of 38, in the men’s50m air pistol competition and missed out on qualifying for the final by two points.

PLAY OF THE DAY
Usain Bolt in a show stopping Olympic record time of 9.63 seconds in one of, if not, the fastest 100m final ever contested with all runners, bar one who pulled out with injury midway through, coming in under 10 seconds.
